Professor Brian Josephson, Physics Nobel Prize laureate 1973, has accepted the invitation of the organizing committee to give a lecture at the closing session of the conference on Friday November 5. He will talk about "The role of Authority in the Scientific Process". He will also give a short presentation at the open door meeting at the University (Faculté des Sciences de Luminy) on Tuesday November 2.
Professor Brian Josephson has been awarded the Nobel Prize for his prediction of the so-called "Josephson effect" (superconducting electronic switch in semiconductors), a work he performed as a student at the age of 22. He is professor at the Cavendish Laboratory, Cambridge, UK.
In June Professor Brian Josephson gave a
remakable lecture during the 54th meeting of Nobel Laureates in
Lindau, Germany during which he ridiculed the attacks on Cold Fusion, likening
the situation to the initial rejection of Alfred Wegener's continental drift
proposal, despite the overwhelming evidence for it.
